Glamorgan CCC19-Sep-2003Owen Parkin, who made his debut for Glamorgan in 1994, has decided to retire from First Class Cricket at the end of the current season.Chief Executive Mike Fatkin said :`It’s never an easy decision for a professional sportsperson to take, but the make-up of the Glamorgan side of late has limited Owen’s opportunities and I fully understand his reasons for looking to secure his future away from cricket. After eleven years at the Club, he’s become a highly respected and popular member of staff and he’ll be greatly missed.’A right-arm medium-fast swing bowler, Owen was a regular in the First Team’s one-day side in recent years, helping to take the team to a Benson & Hedges Cup Final at Lord’s in 2000 and featuring in the National Cricket League side which lifted the title in 2002.Of his retirement, Owen said :`I’ll be very sad to leave Glamorgan and my team-mates, but I have to be realistic and start making provision for a future for my young family. I’ve enjoyed every moment of my time with the Club and am grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. I leave with some very happy memories’.Owen will play for Papatoetoe Cricket Club in New Zealand during the winter.
